Project Compassion Sunday
The readings today anticipate the coming Lenten period. Lent invites us to reflect, pray, fast and give alms. In today’s Gospel, Jesus redefines who is our “neighbour,” to include not only those with whom we are comfortable, but all of humanity - our global community.
Jesus offers a radical approach to be with others - he invites us to go further, to go above and beyond what is required; to go two miles if asked to go one mile, to give your tunic as well as your cloak.
In Australia, Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion campaign has become part of the Church's Lenten practice, offering us an opportunity to go above and beyond in our almsgiving to bring joy and hope to others. In the
coming weeks we will hear stories of people who participate in Caritas Australia supported programmes. We will be inspired by the resilience of our sisters and brothers in these programmes as they face the challenges of injustice, living in extreme poverty and impacted by climate change. Through our support of Project Compassion, we seek to stand in solidarity with our neighbours as a global community.
As the season of Lent approaches, we might consider, where in our own lives do we need to go further in love and compassion?
The Light is On
Again this year our parish is taking part in “The Light is On,” where every Friday evening during Lent, Churches will be open for quiet time and prayer, with the Sacrament of Reconciliation available.
Our Church will be open on Fridays from 7-8pm, and you are invited to make a space to spend this time with God and to allow God’s light to enter the circumstances of your life in a new way this Lent. You are very welcome! Please take some invitation cards from the information tables and invite others also. www.thelightisonforyou.org.au

Ash Wednesday & Lent
Lent begins this week from Ash Wednesday 26 February. Abstinence from meat and fasting are to be observed on this day and Good Friday. Fasting means taking only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary according to one’s needs, but solid foods between meals is not permitted. On all Fridays of Lent the law of common practice of penance is fulfilled by performing: Prayer - eg Mass, family prayer, a visit to a Church, reading the bible; Self-Denial - eg no eating sweets or dessert, giving up entertainment; helping others - eg special attention to the poor, sick, lonely.
It is to be a joyful fast of anticipation as we look forward to the celebration of Easter, so that the joys of the Resurrection may be attained with uplifted and clear minds.
Each of the faithful is obliged to receive Holy Communion at least once a year, between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday. All of the faithful are obliged to confess their grave sins at least once a year.
Masses on Ash Wednesday will be celebrated at 9am and 7pm here in our Church.
Also on offer during Lent are ‘The Light is On’ for quiet time, prayer and reconciliation on Friday evenings from 7-8pm, Stations of the Cross after Masses on Fridays, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, each Saturday following 9am Mass and continuing until Benediction at 5:30pm.
The Relics are Coming!
Save the date! The National Pilgrimage of the Relics of St Therese of Lisieux and her parents, Ss Zelie & Louis Martin, will be here in our Church:
Sunday 8 March 8pm to
Monday 9 March at 5pm.
Veneration of the Relics and devotions will take place during an overnight vigil and throughout following day. More information to follow in the coming weeks. Be sure to take advantage of this special privilege of a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Teach our Children about Jesus
There is always a need for more Catechists and Helpers. We teach Scripture in our four local public primary schools on a Thursday morning during school terms. If you could spare a couple of hours a week you could make all the difference in a child's life! The classes are small and very manageable. The lessons are planned for you, the children have a great workbook, and you are backed by resources and training. If you are interested in this wonderful ministry please give us a call at the parish office on 4332 2216.
The Gift Centre has many gifts and devotional goods for all occasions, including Baptisms, Confirmations, Weddings, First Eucharist and First Reconciliation. We also have many Bibles available including Children’s Picture Bibles, as well as Scripture study materials and educational books.
Before and after the Masses Saturdays (Mass 6pm) & Sundays (Masses 8am & 9:30am)
& during the week by appointment 4332 2216.

Diamond Women's Support
Diamond Women's Support is a not-for-profit organisation that seeks to provide help and support to women and families facing an unplanned pregnancy.
No woman should ever feel that she is cornered, or that there are no options left for her except to terminate her pregnancy. Lack of support and education, alongside continual bombardment by the media, instils fear - that an unexpected pregnancy is ‘the end’. But we believe everyone is entitled to support, respect and compassionate care.
If you are pregnant, or think you might be and want to talk, give us a call. We can give you and your family support and help for free. Call us on 4399 7099.
We the people of the Diocese of Broken Bay The Entrance Parish are committed to fostering communities of safety and care for all people, especially for children and others in the community who are vulnerable. Our commitment is underscored by our faith in Jesus Christ.
National Catholic Safeguarding Standards: Leadership, monitoring & improvement
Standard 1 – Committed leadership, governance and culture.
The Key Elements of Standard 1:
Working in a Child-Related Ministry
Paid and volunteer workers who have direct face to face contact with children (under 18 years) are required by law to obtain a Working with Children Check number. Please note though exemptions may apply in some cases. The Parish is the employer of the paid or volunteer worker and therefore is required by law to verify the Working with Children Check number. All paid or volunteer workers engaged in a child-related role must have a cleared Working with Children Check to work in a child-related ministry. This disclosure references the legislation, Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
Help a Child feel Safe, Happy & Secure
There are children in our community who have been through experiences few of us could begin to fathom and who, without our help, will go through a childhood without the love and support of a family. CatholicCare Broken Bay is looking for everyday families who might consider taking a child or young person into their home - to love and support them, whether for one or two nights, a few weeks, months, or long term. This just might be you. If you have room in your heart and space in your home contact one of our team at CatholicCare Foster Care 4320 7700, firstname.lastname@example.org or www.catholiccaredbb.org.au or come to an Information Evening Wednesday 28 February 6pm 1/32 Central Coast Highway West Gosford.
