This story is not too complicated. Jesus cures ten lepers and only one returns to say thanks, and that one is a foreigner, a Samaritan.
In the first reading we come across Naaman and Elisha. This story in 2 Kings 5 is a real lesson and the whole story is worth a read. Naaman is very wealthy and goes to Elisha for prayer for healing of his skin disease. He is asked to do one simple thing, but this is too much for him. He is asked to bathe in the Jordan. He knows that his own river is much better than the Jordan.
He is eventually convinced and he is healed. God’s ways are not our ways. We
are reminded again. Naaman’s humility eventually wins the day. He is able to listen to his servant. Get the Bible down and read the Chapter in 2 Kings 5. It is a wonderful lesson that we can all learn from.
Back to the ten lepers. We can understand their joy at being healed. They are no longer cut off from family and friends. They have reason to celebrate. It is not that they are ungrateful. It is just that they had more important things to do!!!!! Learn the lesson and give thanks at all times.
