Who do you say I am? Peter says you are the Christ, the Son of the
living God. With just a few believers Jesus is ready to start on the
Journey. In Luke’s Gospel this is the way the author dramatises the journey to the Cross. Jesus is quick to point out that the journey involves suffering.
Let us stop here for a moment. Jesus suffered unto death. He calls us to carry our Cross. Many Catholics are confused about this. There is a difference between suffering and sickness. All sickness is suffering, sometimes most intense suffering. Jesus healed the sick and asked his disciples to do the same. Jesus was never sick as far as I know. But he suffered intensely. Sometimes our faith causes us to suffer. People ridicule our beliefs. And that will always be
the case. But we pray against sickness, we seek good doctors and chemists and take good medicine to fight for life to the full and seek the Sacrament of the Sick.
Pray for good health. Offer up the persecution we suffer and the rejection we feel for being disciples.
