To add to this, a well known lady of the night comes into the dining room and begins to weep and to anoint Jesus’ feet. How embarrassing! How would you expect Jesus to react? Simon certainly expected Jesus to spurn the woman and to reject her. Jesus turns the tables on Simon by referring to the rather less than polite greeting that he received and turns all the exuberant crying and anointing into the good manners that Simon should have shown to a guest.
It is a beautiful story of the Compassion of Jesus. He worries not about his own reputation. He ministers to the woman, “your faith has saved you; go in peace”.
